About me

Born and raised in Tahiti, with a French, Italian and Jewish background, I love being by the sea and naturally island culture has always been a huge part of my life.

Most of my childhood memories come from time spent by the beach, and this is where I always feel most happy no matter where I am around the world.

After graduating school, my early adult years were spent working in the Tahitian Black Pearl Industry as a Pearl Grader. For 10 years I enjoyed coming to understand the different shapes, the harmony of contrasting colours, tones and lustres and working with different lighting to see the detail in every pearl, which has since come in handy for my design work.

In 2010 however, I realised that working full time didn’t bring me joy and so I decided to leave my job to spend more quality time with my baby and husband. A lot has happened since then! We’ve travelled the world doing volunteer work, spent time getting to know people and learning about other cultures.

I’ve always been creative and with more free time I played around making jewellery for friends using shells and pearls, until one day a lady asked if she could buy them from me. And so in 2011 I founded my brand Made by Jenny (MBJ). It’s now another ten years on, and I’ve created a collection of unique statement pieces drawing my inspiration from all the places we’ve travelled around the world.

I create pieces in a very limited quantity of each style, if not totally unique and every piece holds a Nacre (Mother of Pearl) from the islands of Tahiti.

The Mother of Pearl is an amazing and versatile gemstone to work with. It’s trendy and timeless, and I just love how I can incorporate this amazing shell into any design. It always blends well and adds a layer of texture, colour and tone to make each piece unique and special. Most of all, I love being able to work with something that to me, feels like home.
